The Margaret River Wine Industry Association (MRWIA) is a non-profit organisation, which in early 2007 assumed responsibility for the Margaret River Wine Region Festival. Started by a group of winemakers back in the late 1970's, the Margaret River Grape Growers & Winemakers Association as it was known then, was incorporated in 1982 and at that time had only a handful of members. The charter of the Association has remained constant over the years - primarily to represent the interests of the Margaret River wine industry and promote Margaret River wine.

2009 will mark the 18th Margaret River Wine Region Festival!

Margaret River Region
The Association and its members was one of the first groups in Australia to register a geographic boundary for our region. Current membership of the Association is over 300 including wine producers, grape growers, individuals, consultants, commercial partners and associated industry bodies.  The Margaret River wine region stretches some 100km from north to south and about 27km wide in parts.

It is a wine region of superior growing conditions with a Mediterranean style climate. This means vineyards are not affected by extreme summer and winter temperatures. Humidity levels are ideal during the growing period and the combination of climate, soil and viticulture practices leads to consistently high quality fruit of intense flavour. Consequently annual vintage results continue to exceed expectations and reinforce its reputation of one of the premium wine producing regions of the world. Today there are nearly 5,000 hectares under vine and over 100 wine producers in the region.

Objectives of the Wine Region Festival:

Ensure that all stakeholders, including local governments, wine and tourism associations, wineries, tourism operators, local businesses and residents are given opportunity to participate in the festival

Strive to continuously improve the festival experience for visitors and participants

Ensure the Festival has a range of events to appeal to all demographics, encompassing wine appreciation, enjoyable day out, education etc

Strive to continuously showcase Margaret River wine region producers, businesses and natural environment in the best possible way

Explore all funding opportunities to enable the festival to remain value for money for visitors, participants and sponsors
